Its impact is tremendous and the technology has already spread into many fields like medicine, electronics, criminal investigation, pharmaceutics, textiles and other materials.
Indian government is diverting good amount of funds for research and development in this sector. Nanotechnology is an emerging area of growth and employment.
Professionals can find employment in a variety of sectors and the vertical growth is good. The research prospects in the field are also quite promising.
This discipline is mostly offered at the postgraduate levels.

There are good number of institutes offering M.Tech and postgraduate diploma courses in the subject.
Amity University, Amity Institute of Nanotechnology, Noida, offers two-year full-time M.Tech in Nanotechnology. The eligibility criterion is B.Tech/ BE/ M.Sc with Physics/ Chemistry/ Bio Science/ Natural Science/ Electronics/ Instrumentation/ Mathematics. For details, visit www.amity.edu
Sastra University, Thanjavur offers this course. The eligibility criterion is BE / B.Tech degree in Biotechnology / Biomedical Engineering / Bioinformatics / Chemical Engineering or M.Sc Bioinformatics / Biotechnology / Chemistry.
The admission is based on the overall percentage of marks secured in the qualifying undergraduate /Post-Graduate degree. Preference will be given to GATE score holders. For details, log on to www.sastra.edu
Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal, also offers the course. BE/ B.Tech students of all streams and M.Sc Physics students are eligible for the course.
The admission is based on GATE score and performance at the entrance test conducted by the institute.
