Some Stats and Facts:

  • India has the world’s third largest population suffering from AIDS, after South Africa and Nigeria.
  • However, the estimated number of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections in India has declined drastically in recent years — from 5.5 million in 2005 to below 2.5 million in 2007.
  • Approximately 50,000 children below 15 years are infected by HIV every year.
  • For every 100 people living with HIV and AIDS (PLHAs), 61 are men and 39 women. Prevalence is also high in the 15-49 age group (88.7 percent of all infections), indicating that AIDS still threatens the cream of society, those in the prime of their working life.
  • AIDS Awareness is the most important aspect.
  • Women who have heard of AIDS (%)              Urban:  80.7   Rural: 46.4
  • Men who have heard of AIDS (%)                     Urban: 80.0    Rural :94.2

When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove me from that service? – Thanks
